Description
In this work, the effect of nano-Y2O3 coating on the interfacial phenomena between commercial IN-718 nickel based superalloy and zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) was evaluated in terms of possible applications in casting technologies. For this purpose, wettability experiments by sessile drop method was carried out at 1500°C. For the sake of comparison, the test was arranged in a "two-in-one" mode, by using non-coated ZrSiO4 substrate as a reference. Upon the test, high-speed recording of drop/substrate images was applied for a calculation of wetting kinetics. The solidified sessile drop couples were subjected to structural characterisation by means of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses performed at cross-sectioned alloy/coating/substrate interfaces. The effect of nano-yttria on the course of high-temperature capillarity phenomena was discussed.
This work is part of the Project INSURFCAST (Innovative Surfaces for Superalloys Casting Processes) financed within the ERA-LEARN 2020 support action funded by EU-H2020, M-ERA.NET Joint Call 2016.
