Description

The main goal of the project INSURFCAST is to design appropriate innovative ceramic surfaces and procedures which would enable the use of innovative binary and ternary nickel superalloys for the production of complex-shaped blades by precision investment casting. For this alloys thermophysical properties data and their interpretation not yet available in the literature. This paper present study thermophysical properties of in liquide-solid state of binary and ternary nickel alloys have been measured as a function of temperature using various thermal analysis techniques. The calorimetric measurements were performed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while dimensional changes in the samples and thermal diffusivity were measured by dilatometric method (DIL), respectively. All measurements were carried out under an Ar inert gas atmosphere. The following parameters were determined: temperature and heat of transformation, thermal expansion and coefficient of thermal expansion. The high temperature interaction and reactivity taking place between molten alloy samples and Al2O3 container during DSC tests were evaluated by structural analysis of the resulting interfaces using the alloy samples solidified inside Al2O3 containers. Structure and chemistry of interfaces formed between Al2O3 and Ni alloys during high temperature DSC tests were examined using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

This work is part of the Project INSURFCAST (Innovative Surfaces for Superalloys Casting Processes) financed within the ERA-LEARN 2020 support action funded by EU-H2020, M-ERA.NET Joint Call 2016.
