Description
The work deals with the surface modification of silicon nitride by the heat treatment to make material bioactive. The silicon nitride was sintered with different sintering additives using FAST in order to form bioactive grain boundary phases. The heat treatment by oxy-acetylene flame was used to create bioactive porous surface layer of Si3N4. Various combinations of sintering additives were utilized to ensure both good mechanical properties of bulk and bioactive porous surface layer.
