Description
The present study investigates the influence of thermomechanical (TM) processing conditions on microstructure and mechanical properties of new Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr (TNTZ) alloy, by SEM (scanning electron microscopy), tensile and microhardness testing techniques. The TNTZ alloy was produced in cold-crucible levitation melting starting from high-purity constituent elements. The TNTZ alloy was thermomechanical processed by cold rolling (CR) deformation, with a total thickness reduction (total deformation degree) of 60%, in 6 rolling passes. After CR, different solution treatments (ST) were applied in order to induce changes in the alloy's microstructure and mechanical behaviour. The ST’s were performed at 800°C, 900°C and 1000°C, with treatment durations between 5min to 20min.
Microstructural characteristics (constituent phases, morphology, grain-size, grain distributions) and obtained mechanical properties (ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, elongation to fracture, elastic modulus and microhardness) of all thermomechanical (TM) processed samples were analysed and correlated with the TM processing conditions.
