Description

Non-metallic inclusions generated by mold flux entrapment are detrimental to the final steel’s quality. In this paper, a water model experiment was carried out to study the mold flux entrapment during the filling process. The side outlet was created at the mold to ensure the quasi-steady state of the filling process, which can help to visualize the formation of the open eye. Additionally, numerical simulation was also implemented to study the mold flux entrapment. The simulation results are compared to the experimental results for model validation.
