Description

In the present research, we study the printing of an Fe-55%Ni alloy on a ductile cast iron substrate using the Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process. The macrostructural observations revealed that the interfacial region between the substrate and deposited alloy is divided in two subregions, including the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and the partially melted zone (PMZ). The microstructure of each region was analyzed and it was found that the microstructure of the deposited alloy consists of large elongated ɣ (Ni, Fe) phase grains along the building direction (BD). The formation of some cracks was also observed within the deposited layers as well as the PMZ. The texture measurements showed that <100> II BD is the main texture component of the deposited alloy.
