An integrated process optimization system for MIDREX DR Plants has jointly been developed by Primetals Technologies and MIDREX Technologies. This system was installed for the first time at the MIDREX DR plant Module 2 of Qatar Steel. The new product quality prediction models achieve high prediction accuracy – hours before the measured data are available. This supports quick decision-making to keep quality targets and a stable DRI quality. Due to the improved control of the DRI quality, significant savings can be expected at the EAFs downstream. The DR Plant Expert System, a rule-based advisory system to assist panel operators in decision-making is the next step to further enhance the system. This expert system has been launched for the first time within the scope of the process optimization system installed at the new MIDREX DR Plant of voestalpine Texas LLC.
