The installation of a spark arrester prior to the EAF’s off-gas filter has become common practice for prolonging filtering bag lifetime as carbon injection was increased. The Axial Cyclone efficiency has been optimized by sophisticated CFD programs in recent projects to achieve sufficient abatements starting from 125 microns whilst simultaneously maintaining pressure drops to below 1" WG. Unlike parallel piped boxes, the centrifugal separators have more “wet” surfaces to absorb gaseous peaks generated by scrap charging fireballs.
